The Cape Town Social Club explored Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve in Franschhoek, in the Western Cape. The reserve offers beautiful mountain scenery, winding trails and sweeping views of the surrounding valleys.
The trails follow a steady ascent along mountain paths, with the scenery opening up as you gain elevation. Higher up, the Uitkyk trail offers breathtaking views of the Wemmershoek Valley, with Wemmershoek Dam visible below.
Continuing towards Du Toitskop brings further elevation and a different perspective of the surrounding mountains and rolling valleys. The combination of open mountain terrain, sweeping valley views and winding trails makes this a beautiful escape from the city.
In total, we covered approximately 10km, clocking around 13,000 steps.
Bring sunblock, plenty of water and snacks, as the trail is fully exposed to the sun. Comfortable hiking shoes are recommended for the steady climbs and changing terrain.
