Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve

By Must Love Hiking

Pretoria

Nestled in the foothills of the Moreleta Kloof lies one of Pretoria's most exquisite gems, the Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve.

The approximate 100 ha reserve is home to various small game species Flowing through the reserve is a tributary of the perennial Moreleta Spruit, which has its origins at Wingate Park Country Club.

We returned to Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve because it is an amazing hiking trail, it is well-marked and well-maintained.

We did use this opportunity to raise funds for one of our own children and we are so grateful to everyone who showed up. Thank you also to those who made a donation.

Your support is much appreciated.

Trail Log:

We set off a little past 07h30 to avoid the heat. The trail is quite shady most of the way with some areas that do not have any shade. There is a river that runs through the trail which makes it tranquil.

There are animals on this hiking trail, Springbuck, Zebra, Blesbok, Impala, Duiker, Bushbuck and Ostrich. Birdwatchers can enjoy the abundant birdlife.

We witnessed two of the Ostriches take a dip in the pond to cool off in the heat. A duck and her ducklings were also taking a leisurely swim. A tortoise and her baby were strolling into the shady grass.

There is no cost for this trail. You will need to send an email to the conservation team and complete a form should you wish to visit the reserve.
