De Wildt Adventure

De Wildt Adventure Trails was our stop for another hiking adventure. It's a beautiful piece of land in the Schietfontien, Brits area and has several hill ranges for you to explore. Vultures on the mountain top are exquisite to see!
The beginning of the hike is flat and takes you through a forest like area. It then starts to ascend into a steep climb with rocky terrain.
We took on the 12.5km Ktatu trail.
The rocky terrain requires good quality shoes.

The beginning of the hike is flat and takes you through a forest like area. It then starts to ascend into a steep climb with rocky terrain. Once you reach the top of the mountain, the view across Harties is truly spectacular and worth the hard climb. There are several elevations and descents during the trail, so you get to experience the technical aspects of hiking. There are many areas to stop, breathe, have a hydration break and admire the view and nature in all its glory.

A good pair of trail/hiking shoes from Merrell are a must! The rocky terrain requires good quality shoes. Luckily i had my Moab 3 Apex MID WP which has good grip and stability around the ankles. If you need extra support, a stick is recommended. With the chilly winter mornings, you will start out with a warm jacket, but will soon get your body temperature up with the intensity of the trail.

There are various trails on offer. The more technical/difficult trails are for the more experienced hiker and shorter/less strenuous for those that want to explore the property with their families or are starting out their hiking career.
We took on the 12.5km Ktatu trail which is the moderate/difficult trail as we wanted to put our hiking skills to the test. The trail we completed requires fitness and cardio strength.
A positive mindset and enough hydration is a must! It certainly put us through our paces, but the feeling of accomplishment once done was amazing. We ended off our day with a good ol' South African braai in the company of good friends at the venue 🇿🇦.
