Mpumalanga
Our next adventure was at Rocky Drift Private Nature Reserve, which is hidden in the scenic Elands Valley, Waterval Onder, Mpumalanga. The reserve spans around 257 hectares and is fed by the Joubert Spruit.
8km trail on offer
Moderate yet slippery route
Merrell Hiking Boots, hydration, a trekking pole, sunscreen and a hat
The first section of the trail follows an easy path through bushveld and patches of indigenous forest.
We crossed the Joubert Spruit, following the trail further up the valley through the indigenous forest. As the trail gradually descends, the sound of rushing water begins to grow louder.
With some scrambling towards the end, one will find the 35-metre Cappi Waterfall. It's a lovely spot for refreshing swim and snack break before heading back, following the same route back.
The area is rich in wildlife and birdlife, and one could spot Bushbuck, Duiker, Klipspringer, Vervet Monkeys, and Baboons.
Follow The Route
It was a scorching day, so sun protection was needed. Hydration is essential, and a trekking pole is recommended. My preferred Merrell hiking boots gave me a good grip as I navigated the rocky and slippery parts of the trail.
Join Our Hiking ClubThe Cappi Waterfall trail showcases the diverse landscapes of the Mpumalanga escarpment, with indigenous forest, river crossings, rocky terrain, valley views, and the spectacular Cappi Waterfall.
