We return to @Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens hiking trail after one year. This was also the trail where @Michael Ross, now one of our recce members first joined @Must Love Hiking.

We did this hike on Saturday and Sunday to accommodate our hikers.
On both days, we ended our hike with a picnic to celebrate the beginning of Spring.

Field Notes:

This particular trail has multiple ascents and descents, and good hiking footwear is vital to ensure that your feet, knees and ankles are secure.

You too can own your very own pair of Merrell footwear by going to www.merrell.co.za, let us know when you do so.

Trail Log:

The gushing sound of the waterfall keeps you going as you climb up the stairs toward the rocky terrain in anticipation of the brilliant waterfall and view of the black eagles.

Once you reach the top of the waterfall, there is a moment to reflect, and witness the flight of the black eagles before continuing on the brief flat terrain.
Immediately thereafter you are presented with a steep rocky ascent but the view from the top is just WOW!

Just when you think you are done, the steep descent begins. You must take care as you descend. There are many loose rocks and sand on the descent that can make the trail quite slippery. A crab-like motion (sideways) is best for this type of terrain.

The trail is entertaining and just when you think you are out of energy, the trail comes to an end at a fountain where you can refresh.
Running through the fountain is not allowed but the cool running water is very tempting.

There is a restaurant at this venue.
You can also pack your picnic basket and enjoy a lovely day out with your family.
The cost for this trail is R80 pp. You can pay and book online or pay when you arrive. It is a cash-free zone.
No alcohol is allowed into the venue and it is not pet friendly.
