Tsitsikamma
I woke up at early dawn, energised, and refreshed to get my feet going for another day of exploration. The weather was now our friend, with the sun not being shy to show itself.
14,7km trail on offer
Moderate and scenic route
Merrell Hiking Boots, hydration, energy snacks, a trekking pole, sunscreen and a hat
The trail begins with a steep incline up 'Apiesrug', where you'll find a viewpoint with panoramic views of the surroundings. We headed to the top of the plateau and followed the Blackwood path, past Covie, under the N2 bridge and on into Platbos. After 10km, we stopped at the 'Staircase Waterfall' for lunch and a breather. Most of the day's hike takes you through indigenous forests as you venture closer inland towards the foothills of the Tsitsikamma mountains. The last part of the trail involves walking through a pine plantation, where you'll reach your stunning accommodation for the night.
Follow The RouteHydration, energy snacks, a trekking pole, sunscreen, and a hat were vital. My preferred Merrell hiking boots stood me in good stead, as they helped me navigate the trail with ease.
Join Our Hiking ClubBefore settling in for the afternoon, make sure to visit the rock pools found in the gorge below the hut. We ended our day with a few cold ones, a hearty braai, and a hot shower. Keep your gear and food safe, as there is a pair of large spotted genets that visit the hut for a quick check-in 🤣
