Tsitsikamma
We woke early, and soon after, multiple headlamps were on the move around the camp, preparing for day 5 of our adventure. Today's hike was the most challenging day, which would see us negotiate two saddles en route to our next overnight hut.
14,2km trail on offer
Challenging trail with spectacular views
Merrell Hiking Boots, a trekking pole, energy snacks, sun protective gear and hydration
We slowly started ascending 'Splendid Pass', making our way up our first saddle before descending into the wet indigenous forest at 'Mostertsbos'. We then crossed the 'Witteklip River', which marks the day's halfway point, and the climb up to 'Nademaalsnek' begins shortly thereafter. It was a strenuous climb, but the views of Sleepkloof Hut, Storms River Gorge, and Tsitsikamma mountains were worth it. We proceeded carefully down 'Teebosrug', admiring the surroundings, whilst keeping an eye on a troop of baboons in the distance. We entered another indigenous forest and finished up shortly after that.
Follow The RouteMy preferred Merrell hiking boots served me well again, and my trekking pole kept me balanced. Energy snacks and hydration are important, as well as sun protective gear.
Join Our Hiking ClubWe settled in, enjoyed a hot shower, and had the last of our beverages. To fill our bellies tonight was the turn of Hungry Hiker, which everyone enjoyed while sitting around the campfire. We had a good night's rest, knowing we had done well over the past five days. We completed 3 km on the last day and exited at Storms River Bridge.
The Tsitsikamma Trail was truly a memorable experience and one I'll never forget 👣
