South of Johannesburg
On a scorching summer day, Voets Toets Hiking ventured off to explore Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, situated in the south of Johannesburg.
10.5km trail
Some rocky climbs, and a few challenging descents
Merrell Hiking Boots, hydration, a trekking pole, and sun protection
We completed 10,5 km and started our adventure by heading to the southern side of the reserve to explore the Marais farmstead. We then made our way gradually up the mountainside in search of the beacon trail. Along the route, we spotted black wildebeest as well as a dazzle of Zebra. After taking in the views of the Johannesburg skyline, we made our descent and followed the Bloubos Spruit back to the reception area.
Follow The Route
During the summer season, adequate hydration is essential, as well as sun protection. The venue is busy, so an early start is recommended. The trail we took was rocky and challenging in sections. My preferred Merrell hiking boots were comfortable and supported me where necessary. The descent down the mountainside can be tricky, so a trekking pole could come in handy.
