Rosemary Hill Farm

By Must Love Hiking

Our group of 33 hikers set off early on Sunday morning to Pretoria, enjoying another glorious sunrise. This venue is stunning, the fragrance of lavender on the trail is so prominent that you would think it is a lavender farm.

This venue boasts two trails, a 5km & 11km

Always a good idea to wear the correct footwear

Route:

This venue boasts two trails, 5km's known as the Forest Loop (Easy) and then the 11km trail, known as the Mountain Loop, Steep and Wheezy, hard on kneezy.

Of course, we chose the tougher one. This was more of an endurance hike for most of our hikers.

Truly a trail that you will enjoy to the fullest.

The route is simple although winding. You zig zag through the gorgeous, well kept farm. You will pass some beautiful horses at the stables. Along the route are some fun obstacles to keep things interesting.

Field Notes:

The terrain is mostly flat on this trail with a minor ascent and descent. It is always a good idea to wear the correct footwear (boots and socks) when hiking. We appreciate our Merrell footwear for its comfort and durability.

Trail Log:

Rosemary Hill Farm is neat, with its well manicured gardens. There is a welcoming fireplace at the coffee shop. I had to lure some of our hikers out of the cosy coffee shop who found refuge around the fireplace in the early morning chill.

This is a venue that makes you want to just stay around and enjoy all the special treats for the young and the not so young.
The trail is well marked and has some minor ascents to keep you entertained as you meander through this absolutely breathtaking, fragrance filled terrain. We came across some interesting glass pods that intrigued us. I am such a sucker for lavender, and just enjoyed myself as we hiked through the fields of lavender and rosemary. The many fir trees are simply incredible to look at.

The Camber Bridge that stretches across the dam in a winding shape makes for so much fun and laughter. It does make you a little nervous as it has a slant on the one side but really more fun than fear. It is definitely one of the obstacles you must overcome when you visit this venue.
There is overnight accommodation but we did not stop to ask about it.

At the end of our endurance hike, we gathered at the restaurant on site to enjoy scrumptious food. The service was swift and excellent and the food was very tasty.

Everyone at Rosemary Hill Farm is professional, and hospitable.
