Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, South Africa, in Poortview, Roodepoort, was our next adventure stop.

4km geological trail

Intermediate

Rocky and steep hiking trail

Merrell hiking boots; sun protection; adequate hydration and a hiking stick

Route:

The trail begins at the Witpoortjie falls and takes you up the mountainside with beautiful views of the surrounding gardens. It's a rocky trail that certainly gets the heart rate up! Once at the top of the mountain, we could see far into the Roodepoort distance. The trail takes a fairly steep descent, where we ended back at the main road of the gardens.

Field Notes:

It was a beautiful sunny day, so sun protection is essential. Even though it's a short trail, due to the endurance required, adequate hydration is needed. A hiking stick can help navigate your route. Our preferred Merrell hiking boots gave us stability and grip on the rocks.
