We left the car park and immediately started ascending the mountainside en route to Rainbow Falls. We continued along the trail, scanning the trees in search of the Bald Ibis, Knysna Loerie, and long-tailed Wagtail. Not long before, we reached the breathtaking Bald Ibis Gorge, where we had a refreshing swim. We then followed the trail along the Schoonspruit River, crossing many rustic bridges, always in awe of our surroundings. The natural pools, ferns, lichens, and towering indigenous trees are a sight to behold. We stopped off at the top of Rainbow Falls, admiring the view and stunning falls. The trail ends shortly thereafter at the parking area.

My preferred Merrell hiking boots provided comfort along the trail, navigating slippery sections with ease. A trekking pole came in handy, and hydration and energy snacks are always important. Take your swimming gear and enjoy a dip at the Bald Ibis Gorge or any of the natural pools along the route.
