How To Improve Your Running With Merrell

merrell

For many people, running is more than just a form of exercise. It’s about getting some fresh air outdoors, creating a routine and sticking to it, discipline, and, of course, bettering yourself every day.

However, while we would all love to see ourselves constantly improving, sometimes the journey is a lot more complicated than that. Just like a new trail, you never know what to expect. Some sections might be rocky, while others are smooth. You might encounter some serious climbs, and other times you can cruise on the decline.

In this blog, we’ll delve into some factors to consider when trying to improve your running.

1. Reassess Your Current Routine

If you are not seeing progress, then it is time to reassess what you are doing currently.

Sometimes, we get so used to our routine that we don’t realise it has stopped challenging us, or that it no longer aligns with our goals.

Take a moment to reflect on your workouts, your intensity, consistency, and daily habits. Ask yourself, is everything I am doing aligned with my goals? If not, make the necessary adjustments.

2. Cross Train

Cross-training is such an important factor for any sport, as it can strengthen performance whilst decreasing your chance of injury.

When we run, often, we use the same few muscle groups. Therefore, our body needs us to strengthen the supporting muscles that running alone does not target.

Adding 1-2 days a week of strength training will make all the difference.

3. Prioritise Rest

It’s easy to get caught up in your routine and the fun of pushing your body to new limits; however, rest and recovery still need to remain a priority.

During our workouts, we place stress on our muscles, which creates microtears. These muscles repair and adapt during rest and with proper nutrition, making recovery a crucial component for improving your overall performance.

4. Fuel Your Body Consistently

Our bodies need fuel to perform at their best. But, in the crazy schedule that contemporary life throws at us, it can become quite tricky getting in efficient calories for our day. This is where meal prepping becomes your best friend.

Plan out meal ideas on the weekend, or at the very least, your protein options for the week. Then simply mix and match your veggies and carbs as the week goes on.

Additionally, don’t forget to take those daily vitamins and any recovery aids, as this will keep your immune system strong and help you bounce back quickly between workouts.

5. Never Compromise on Footwear

Here at Merrell, we firmly believe that runners should never compromise on comfort and quality when it comes to footwear.

Our feet are the very base of our bodies, and improper footwear can wreak havoc on our ankles, joints, and back. Trust us, it is not worth the risk.

Meet Your New Running Partner: The Agility Peak 6

The latest instalment of our Agility Peak series has arrived, and we know it will turn heads!

The durable uppers provide a secure fit, ensuring that your feet are locked in place, while the higher protective rand shields you from rugged terrain.

Of course, this design features an unbeatable grip, thanks to our signature Vibram® Megagrip with traction lugs. And since comfort is always a priority for us, you can look forward to the lightweight cushioning provided by the FloatPro Foam™.

But, if these features don’t wow you enough, then we know the test results will!

● Enhanced Traction Lugs

Compared to the previous version, the Agility Peak 6 outperformed in loose gravel push-off testing in an independent Heeluxe lab study.

We kept the same rock plate as the previous version, but enhanced it with transaction lugs on every lug for 80% more traction lug coverage. What does this mean? More stop-and-go power!

● More Breathability

The new engineered, zone jacquard upper combines ventilation and abrasion resistance. This allows your feet to stay cool and remain unstoppable on the trails. No matter how muddy or rocky the path is, the higher full mudguard along with the reinforced protective toe cap, will keep your feet safe and comfortable.

Upgraded Comfort

The Agility Peak 6 has taken comfort to the next level with the upgrades made to the design.

We’ve added a PU footbed for added cushioning, an SMR tongue for that next-to-skin feel, and finally, our unconqured FloatPro midsole foam.

Furthermore, your foot can now enjoy moving and reacting quickly to every changing terrain, thanks to the newly extended Flex Connect Flex grooves.

Are You Ready To Level Up Your Runs?

The fact is, there is no single formula for improving your running goals; progress comes from putting in the work and making adjustments to your routine as you work.

But one thing can stay consistent: the comfort your feet feel when you’re out on the trails.

So, make this season yours to own! Grab your very own pair of our Agility Peak 6’s (or any of our other styles you might prefer), and get yourselves out on those trails/roads.

Because the great outdoors is not a sight to be missed!
